What's new in this release?

Give admins control over DID visibility 

• Keep your organization's directory clean by controlling whether users' DIDs (direct phone numbers) are displayed across 8x8 Work.
• Enable or disable DID visibility for users via a new setting in Admin Console -> Work Apps Settings.
• When disabled, DIDs are hidden across contact cards, search results, call history, logs, and voicemail views.

Smoother Citrix detection on WorkWeb 

• Smoother Citrix detection on WorkWeb Chrome's updated Local Network Access policy now requires users to explicitly grant permission before WorkWeb can probe for a Citrix environment. To ensure a seamless experience, WorkWeb now automatically detects when this permission is needed and prompts users to allow local network access via their browser. The banner dismisses automatically once the user responds. If Citrix runtime is not found, users receive a clear warning with a link to the setup guide. Read more about the latest changes.

8x8 Authentication Security Update

• Between February 1 and March 31, 2026, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will become mandatory for all accounts using 8x8 Authentication.
• This change enhances account protection and aligns with industry best practices for secure access.

Various fixes and enhancements

• The message options menu now responds faster with the animation and delay removed for a smoother experience.
• When creating a new room, the privacy setting now defaults to private instead of public. You can still switch to public during the creation process if needed.

Windows Users

EXE Version for Per-User Deployment

What to Consider

• EXE version will be installed to %LOCALAPPDATA%.
• Automatic updates are downloaded and installed for the user. (In previous versions, users were prompted to install the update.)
• No need for maintenance — Work for Desktop will keep itself up-to-date and secure.
• Work for Desktop will check for updates every time the user signs in or once every 24 hours. Users can also check for updates manually. The updates are downloaded in the background without user intervention
• If there is an update to be installed, Work for Desktop will apply the update automatically when the user signs into Work for Desktop. If the user has not installed an update three days after it was downloaded, they will see a Relaunch to Install banner. They can click the link and install the update.

What to Consider

• Single installation on a machine that multiple users that use the computer can leverage.
• IT Admins are required to keep 8x8 Work for Desktop up-to-date and secure.
