Why does the caller ID for an outbound international call display incorrectly?

Updated: 07/18/2024

Question

Why does the caller ID information displayed on the recipients' end for outbound international calls have incorrect information or different from what is expected?

Applies To

  • 8x8 Work
  • 8x8 Contact Center

Answer

8x8 relies on international carriers for international calls. Therefore, 8x8 makes the best effort to present the expected CLID (Calling Line Identification Display) for calls made internationally. 8x8 can only guarantee the CLI for national calls in the countries where we offer a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) replacement.

Additional Information

For issues related to the CLID for international calls, ensure that the originating caller's 8x8 phone number is configured to be displayed as the caller ID number. If the call shows the incorrect caller ID number, create a case with 8x8 Support and provide the details for at least three calls to make sure best efforts are being made.
We rely on international carriers for international calls, therefore CLID presentations are best effort. If you provide valid call samples, we can do our best to escalate these cases with our carriers. If these carriers do not have alternate routes to the destination or, for whatever reason, they use a specific CLID to terminate the call, they will classify the CLID as best effort.
This does not apply if the caller spoofs their caller ID when placing an outbound international call from an 8x8 phone number.
