Question

How do I understand my first month’s billing?

Applies To

  • Billing

Answer

8x8 bills its customers via the use of proration for its first month (or months if you've signed on for multiple years), meaning that your order includes your first month(s) of billing making the subsequent month prorated. With this prorated month system, every month is rated for 30 days—even February or all the months that have 31 days.
Note: Taxes and Fees are not prorated and depending on what part of the month you order, you may be responsible for a full month's worth of taxes and fees regardless of included month.
Example 1
If you order service on May 15th, your first month's bill will cover 30 days (roughly May 15th to June 15th, it may be a day or two off if you're having equipment shipped out). 8x8 bills at the beginning of the month, so you will receive your first monthly bill on June 2nd but it will cover only from June 16th to June 30th. The July bill will be the first full billing statement.
Example 2
If you order service on May 2nd, your first month's bill will cover 30 days (roughly May 2nd to June 1st, it may be a day or two off if you're having equipment shipped out). 8x8 bills at the beginning of the month, so you will receive your first monthly bill on June 2nd but it will cover about 29 days, almost a full month. The July bill will be the first full billing statement.
Example 3
If you order service on May 29, your first month's bill will cover 30 days (roughly May 29 to June 28, it may be a day or two off if you're having equipment shipped out). 8x8 bills at the beginning of the month, so you will receive your first monthly bill on June 2nd but it will cover only about one day of June since you already paid for most of June as a part of the order. The taxes and fees however may be full priced for June since taxes and fees are not prorated. The July bill will be the first full billing statement.
