Overview
Multi-device support allows a single user to sign in to multiple devices on the same platform simultaneously. This lets users receive calls and messages across multiple computers or mobile devices without having to switch accounts.
Supported Scenarios
- Work for Desktop:
- Up to 3 desktop devices logged in at the same time
- Example: Home computer + office computer + laptop
- Work for Mobile:
- Up to 3 mobile devices logged in at the same time
- Example: Phone + tablet
Desktop and mobile device limits are separate.
How Multi-Device Support Works
- Incoming calls ring simultaneously on all logged-in devices:
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Web (active tab only)
- When a call is answered on one device:
- The call connects on that device
- A Call Flip banner appears on the other devices
Device Login Limits and Logout Behavior
If you log in to a fourth device, one of the existing devices is automatically logged out.
Work for Desktop
- Logging in to a fourth desktop device:
- Logs you out of the first desktop device you signed into
- Logs you out of the first desktop device you signed into
Work for Mobile
Logout behavior depends on whether existing devices are active (foreground) or inactive (background).
All three devices are in the background
- Logging in to a fourth device:
- Logs out the last-used device when:
- An incoming call is received on another device, or
- You switch back to an older app instance
- Logs out the last-used device when:
All three devices in the foreground
- Logging in to a fourth device:
- Logs out the first device you signed into
- Logs out the first device you signed into
Mixed foreground and background devices
- Logging in to a fourth device:
- Logs out one of the background devices
- Logs out one of the background devices
Active Call Behavior (Mobile)
If the first logged-in device is on an active call:
- iOS:
- Waits for the call to end, then logs out
- Waits for the call to end, then logs out
- Android:
- Ends the call immediately and logs out
- Ends the call immediately and logs out
Known Limitation
- Nomadic 911 does not support multiple instances of Work for Desktop at this time.
- If you reset your password, you will need to manually log out of all your devices and back in witht he correct password.
