Claim Phone Numbers in 8x8 Admin Console

Purpose

To claim (reserve) an available 8x8 phone number in the Admin Console so it can later be assigned to a user or service.

Before You Start

You must have:
  • Administrator access
     
  • Available phone numbers to claim
     
    • If no numbers are available, you may need to purchase additional licenses or request assistance from 8x8 Support. (see How to Order)
       
 

What It Means to “Claim” a Phone Number

Claiming a phone number reserves it for your account. After claiming a number, you can assign it to:
  • A user
     
  • An auto attendant
     
  • A ring group
     
  • Other 8x8 services
     
 

Procedure: Claim a Phone Number

  1. Log in to Admin Console.
     
  2. Select Phone Numbers.
     
  3. Click Claim Phone Number.
  4. Select the Country for the number you want to claim.
     
  5. Select the Number Type:
     
    • Regular – Standard business numbers
       
    • Toll-Free – Numbers included only if your service plan supports toll-free
      The screen displays the number of Regular and Toll-Free numbers currently available.
  6. Apply filters:
     
    • Filter by Number (Starts With, Contains, Ends With), or
       
    • Filter by Location (choose a location from the dropdown)
       
  7. Click Search to view available numbers that match your criteria.
     
  8. In the results list, check the box next to the number you want to claim.
  9. Click Claim Phone Numbers.
     
  10. A confirmation message will appear once the number has been successfully claimed.
     
 

Expected Result

The selected phone number has been claimed and is now available in your account.
You can assign it to a user or service at any time.
 

Filtering Phone Numbers (Reference)

You can filter your phone numbers in Admin Console using the following categories:

Availability

  • Assigned – Already assigned to a user/service
     
  • Available – Ready to assign

Porting Status

Shows the progress of numbers being ported into the 8x8 system:
  • Porting Complete – Successfully ported
     
  • Porting Pending – Currently in progress
     
  • Porting Failed – Porting attempt unsuccessful
     
  • Pre-Porting – Numbers uploaded in bulk and flagged for future porting
     

Number Type

  • Regular
     
  • Toll-Free (only visible if your service plan includes toll-free numbers)
     
 

No Numbers Available

If the search returns:
“Sorry! None of the phone numbers matched this search.”
This means no numbers are available for the selected country or criteria.

What to do next

Open a case with 8x8 Support and provide:
  • The country where you need numbers
     
  • Your local business address in that country
     
  • Number type needed (Geographic or Toll-Free)
     
  • Quantity of numbers needed
     
8x8 Support will work with the Global Number Provisioning team and inform you if additional documentation is required.
