What's new in 8x8 for Microsoft Teams v8.34
Admin-controlled Microsoft 365 personal contacts sync
- Admins can now control whether Microsoft 365 personal contacts are synced to 8x8 Work for MS Teams.
- When the admin setting is enabled, the M365 contacts sync toggle is on by default in 8x8 Work for MS Teams.
- When the admin setting is disabled, the toggle is off and sync is disabled by default.
- When locked by the admin, the setting applies to all users — the toggle is greyed out with a tooltip: ‘Contact your admin to enable this setting.’
- When unlocked, individual users can override the admin’s default from within the app.
Search tab now available in 8x8 Work for Microsoft Teams
- The Search tab is now accessible directly in 8x8 Work for Microsoft Teams.
- Find contacts, SMS messages, and SMS groups from a single Search tab.
- The tab is placed above the Voicemail tab and displays the search icon with a ‘Search’ label.
- The Search tab is only visible when the Contacts tab is enabled.
Overview
The 8x8 for Microsoft Teams app is an optional, supplemental Teams application that allows users to easily access 8x8 user settings and features from within Microsoft Teams.
The application must be installed into the Microsoft Teams environment and enabled for users by the company IT admin.
Features
With the 8x8 Teams app, you can:
- Initiate calls directly from Contacts or Voicemails in the 8x8 Teams app. Depending on your setup and licenses, the call is initiated:
- As a PSTN call initiated from within the 8x8 Teams app and launched into the 8x8 Work client (if installed) or web experience. Only available for users without a Teams Phone license with Presence Sync enabled and 8x8 Work running alongside Teams.
- As a native Teams call through Direct Routing as a Service also known as 8x8 Voice for Microsoft Teams for users with a Teams Phone license.
- Automatically authenticate in the 8x8 Teams app (version 4.0 and newer).
- Log in and log out of call queues and handle calls directed to the queues
- Navigate to the analytics of a selected call queue to detect any performance issues
- Set up your 8x8 voicemail preferences
- Set up External call ID settings
- Define call forwarding preferences for your extension
- Select the default music-on-hold or add a custom recording
- Send and receive faxes
- Send and receive SMS/MMS messages (Limited to the United States and Canada)
- Filter, listen or see transcription of personal voicemails. (Note: Transcription of group voicemails is currently not supported.)
- Supports integrated management of Contacts, enabling users to create, modify, and remove personal contacts. Access must be enabled in 8x8 Admin Console.
