Colt - Cyber Attack

Updated: 08/28/2025

Details & Impact

All 8x8 telephone numbers are routed to our platform by a network operator which hosts the number on our behalf. One of the operators we work with is Colt Technology Services.
Unfortunately, on Tuesday 12 August, Colt were the victim of a cyber attack on their internal system. Whilst this incident has not caused any service impact to live telephone numbers hosted with Colt, there are several key platforms which have been taken offline for security reasons.
Until the affected platforms are active again Colt are unable to assist with new number requests or port requests to transfer numbers to 8x8, or away from 8x8.
Where possible 8x8 will continue to operate as usual by utilising our other network operators to process number requests. However, if Colt are involved in any part of a particular order (i.e. if they are the existing operator) then that order will be on hold until further notice.
There is no current timeline for this outage to be resolved. If you have an open order blocked by this issue then our teams will be in touch to let you know as soon as we can proceed.

Colt Statement

"Thank you for your patience and understanding while some of your support services including Colt Online and our Voice API platform remain unavailable. We can confirm that this is related to our response to a recent cyber incident at Colt Technology Services.
We detected the cyber incident on an internal system. This system is separate from our customers’ infrastructure. We then took immediate protective measures to ensure the security of our customers, colleagues, and business, and we proactively notified the relevant authorities.
One of our protective measures involves us proactively taking some systems offline, which has led to the disruption of some of the support services we provide to our customers. Our technical team is focused on restoring the affected systems and is working closely with third-party cyber experts.
We appreciate your patience as we work towards a resolution."
