Step 1: Create Case Network Assessment Case
- Start by creating a new Case from our support portal.
Simply click on “Create New Case”.
Wait for the case form to load.
- Next, from the “Case Type” dropdown menu select "Troubleshooting". A Case Category dropdown will appear below.
- From the "Category" list select “Network Assessment”
- A notice will be displayed telling you that
“You have selected the Network Assessment case category. This category provides you with our Network Utility Key and the instructions needed to conduct a local network assessment. You must complete the steps to run the assessment and attach the resulting test log to this case. Upon case creation, you will receive an activation key and additional instructions.”
- Now choose your issue severity level and your preferred contact method.
- In the "Subject" field enter a short description. For example, “Request for network assessment Key” (the system will add "Network Assessment :" to the start of the subject)
- Next, In the "Description", briefly describe the issue you are experiencing leading to your request for network assessment.
- After entering all the required information, scroll down to click on the “Submit Case” button.
A popup will ask to ensure you have selected the correct case category. If unsure, click cancel.
It is important to note that this case may not be assigned to an 8x8 support engineer as the process is fully automated.
- Your request with a case reference ID is created as well a email containing:
- Download link to the NUT tool
- Key to activate
- Network Requirement
- Best practice guidelines
Step 2: Running the NUT Test
Please ensure that you select the “Baseline” from the top left menu, this is set by default. When ready, click on “Start” to start running the test.
Please allow all 13 tests to fully complete, this might take up to about 20 plus minutes to complete.
Please note that incomplete tests would not provide a full and clear picture of your network check, and a failed test is still a completed test.
When completed, click “Save Log” at the bottom of the screen.
Please ensure that the file is saved with the default file extension which are .txt for windows and .log for Mac or other OS.

- Launch the 8x8 Network Utility from your download Windows or Mac location.
- Navigate to the top right, click on the Cog to launch the settings screen.
Enter your NUT Key, you will find the key in your email or case note generated from the Network Assessment Case you created.
Enter your company name as presented in the email
Enter the site name where the test is being conducted from.
Click “Save” to continue
Step 3: Supplying the NUT Test File for Analysis

There are two ways you can attach the NUT test Result file.
- From our 8x8 case portal which is illustrated in the video
- By replying to the case-notification email and attach the file from your mail client.
This step is very important to provide analysis of the test result.

Uploading through the case portal

Open the Network Assessment case you created earlier.
- Scroll to the Attachments section and click Add Attachment.
- When your computer’s file picker appears, locate the NUT Test Result file you saved, select it, and choose Open.
- Wait until the upload reaches 100 %, only then click Done. Closing the window early can cancel the upload.

What happens after you uploadOur automation processes the file section by section and then post and update in the case and emails you the findings. This usually takes less than five minutes, so keep an eye on your inbox (and spam folder just in case).That’s all you need to do.
Step 4: NUT Result Analysis
Understanding Your 8x8 NUT Analyzer Report
The 8x8 Network Utility Test report provides a detailed analysis of your VOIP environment to help ensure high-quality communications. The report is structured as follows:
- Summary & Context
- MOS Score: Indicates overall call quality. This is computed from the Fragmentation section of the Test.
- Test Scope: Identifies key issues such as proxy interference, latency spikes, and DNS resolution failures.
- Your Geo routing Information
- Displays your expected vs. actual data center connection, based on your public IP address information which may not be up to date from your ISP.

- Failed Tests
- Clearly lists failed analysis only.
- Clearly lists failed analysis only.
- Test Results breakdown
- Each section of the failed test provides:
- Purpose of the Test
- Issue Description
