Objective
Return 8x8 phone numbers in the Admin Console to 8x8 when either canceling 8x8 phone numbers or replacing an existing phone line with a new number.
To Unassign a phone number in the Contact Center, visit "Assign or Unassign Numbers in the 8x8 Contact Center".

Procedure
- Log in to 8x8 Admin Console.
- Click Phone Numbers.
- Set the following filters: Available, Regular, and Claim.
- Choose the numbers you want to return and then click Return numbers to 8x8.
Additional Information
You may also return the ported-out numbers in case they are of no use to you anymore.
Question: What do I do if I want to change a current phone number from one area code to a different one?
Answer: You can return the claimed phone number. If you don't see a phone number in your pull of available phone numbers with the correct area code, you can raise a case a Number Porting team to help you aquire the number.
*** If you need a phone number in a different country, that may require a different type of license.
Question: How do I return a temporary phone number?
Answer: Once your porting is complete, the temporary number will automatically be removed from your account.
Question: Are we charged for unused numbers?
Answer: 8x8 charges for licenses, whether or not they are assigned to a user. To avoid being charged for unused licenses, you can initiate a partial cancellation. See How to Cancel.
Question: How do I view return claimed numbers?
Answer: You can't as the numbers are no longer in your system and have been returned to the general pool.
Question: Why don't I see the option to return a claimed phone number?
Answer: Make sure you unassign the phone number from the user so it's available to return. If a user has been deactivated, you'll need to reactivate the user first so you can make adjustments to their account.
