Send or Receive a Fax with 8x8 Work for Desktop

This article explains how to send, receive, and manage internet faxes using 8x8 Work for Desktop.

Overview

8x8 Work for Desktop allows users with internet fax permissions to send and receive faxes digitally. Physical (hard) fax machines are not supported within the desktop application.
How to Send a Fax
  1. Log in to 8x8 Work for Desktop.
  2. Select Fax from the main menu.
  3. Select New to create a new fax.
  4. In the To field:
    • Select an existing contact, or
    • Type the destination fax number in the search bar.
  5. Note: Only one recipient number can be added per fax.
    Attach documents using one of the following methods:
    • Select the Attach (paper clip) icon, or
    • Drag and drop files into the 8x8 Work for Desktop window.
  6. Review the attached documents.
  7. Select Send to transmit the fax.
  8. Wait for the fax to be sent completely.
    • Large files, multiple attachments, or documents with images may take longer to process.

How to Receive a Fax

  • Incoming internet faxes are received directly within 8x8 Work for Desktop.
  • No physical fax machine is required.
  • Hard fax retrieval is not supported within the application.

Customize the Fax Cover Sheet

  1. While creating a new fax, locate the "Cover."
  2. Select Open to access cover page settings.
  3. In the cover page details, you can:
    • Enter the recipient’s name
    • Add a message or note to introduce the fax
  4. Save your changes before sending the fax.

Troubleshooting and Notes

  • If you have internet fax permissions but do not see the Fax option:
    • Log out of 8x8 Work for Desktop
    • Log back in and check again
  • If internet fax is not enabled for your account:
  • Multiple fax numbers cannot be added to the To field.
  • Physical (hard) fax machines are not supported by 8x8 Work for Desktop.
    • To send or receive hard faxes, use a physical fax machine.
    • Hard faxes must be retrieved directly from the machine.
